The Welsh language is at the heart of modern Welsh identity. Its history is remarkable. The fact that in the twenty-first century, people can enjoy family life, education, work and leisure all through the medium of Welsh is testimony to the importance of the language to the people of Wales.
In health and social care, to deliver a service which meets people's individual needs and respects their diversity, services must be able to support Welsh language and culture and be able to communicate with people whose first language is Welsh. This supports their social interaction with others, their sense of familiarity and belonging and builds trust with the people who care for them.
At Cymru Care Training, we encourage learners who are able, to study their apprenticeship courses bilingually, or through the medium of Welsh. We also expect all learners to work towards a qualification in Welsh, based on their knowledge of the Welsh language. There are four different levels of the Prentis-iaith units that learners can complete:
- Ymwybyddiaeth - Awareness (for apprentices who currently have little or no Welsh language skills)
- Dealltwriaeth - Understanding (for apprentices who already have some Welsh language skills.)
- Hyder - Confidence (for apprentices who are keen to develop their confidence to use their Welsh in the workplace)
- Rhuglder - Fluency (for apprentices who are fluent in Welsh to assist them to use their Welsh in the workplace)
