The Catholic feast day for Our Lady of Guadalupe is on December 12th, commemorating the 1531 apparition of the Virgin Mary to an indigenous man named Juan Diego in Mexico. She appeared to him as a pregnant mother on Tepeyac Hill and requested a church be built there. When the bishop demanded a sign, Mary miraculously imprinted her image on Juan Diego's mantle (tilma) for the bishop to see.
