Bandi Chhor Divas is a Sikh festival that celebrates the release of the sixth Guru, Guru Hargobind, from prison in 1619. The festival signifies freedom, justice, and equality and is celebrated by Sikhs with lighting candles and lamps, performing devotional singing (Kirtan), sharing community meals (Langar), and engaging in Seva (selfless service). It often coincides with the Hindu festival of Diwali, as Guru Hargobind returned to the holy city of Amritsar on that day.
