In the Orthodox Christian faith, Great Lent begins on Clean Monday, which is the sixth Monday before Palm Sunday. Clean Monday is also known as Pure Monday or Green Monday.

What is Great Lent?

  • Great Lent is a 40-day period of prayer, penance, fasting, and drawing closer to God.
  • It leads up to Holy Week, which is when Orthodox Christians remember Christ's Passion, Death, and Resurrection.
  • Great Lent ends on a Friday.
